What is 51Sim?

51Sim, a non-profit organization alliance, is co-founded by Interactive Department of New Postcom Equipment Co., Ltd and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) Department of 51Give Company in alliance with China International Cultural Communication Center and cultural celebrities like Qi Qin. 51Sim, 51 stands for “I want” in Chinese and Sim for Sustainable Innovation Movement. Its aim is to engage all sectors, including government, corporations, community groups and individuals to work in collaboration to address social and ecological issues in an innovative and sustainable way, ultimately enriching all of society. All our activities encourage broad range awareness of environmental issues, educational reforms and entrepreneurship to build a more harmonious and sustainable China and hence a sustainable world.

April 2008, 51sim organized “Great Walk to Beijing”. Olivia Newton-John led a team of stars from sports and showbiz, along with everyday survivors of cancer, in a 23-day extreme challenge to trek along the Great Wall of China. This challenging journey began on 6th April, 2008 and took 23 days to complete. Their million steps journey symbolizes every cancer patient’s journey - with extreme physical and emotional challenges.

When Sichuan was devastated by the Wenchuan Earthquake in May 2008, 51Sim immediately responded by sponsoring nine university students to provide educational support to many of the children affected. For two weeks, the university students taught classes to the children in order to help the children continue with their normal routine, collected library books and helped with rebuilding efforts.

In July 2008, 51Sim organized a fun music and dance event called "La Boum de Luxe" at Beijing's prestigious Block 8 nightclub. The event was attended by over 1,000 young people and supported by Olympic Organizing Committee. The aim of the event was to inspire people through music and dance to merge the "Green Olympics" theme and the sustainable development messages of 51Sim.

On July 13th 2008, 51SIM organized the Closing Ceremony of the China International Youth Arts Week. Entertainment included the singer Qi Qin, pianist Kong Xiangdong and composer Gary Malkin to the Tianjin Acrobatic Troupe.CCTV4 covered the event, and has rebroadcast the footage in 68 countries during the Olympic period.

51Sim's commitment to sustainability and social responsibility has led to a natural partnership with Camco International in an initiative to calculate and offset the carbon emissions from the International Youth Arts Week. Camco calculated that all the performers’ international and domestic flights and ground travel, related to the week’s performances and the closing ceremony, to equal 1,235 tons of CO2, which was offset by purchasing Plan Vivo Certificates issued by the Plan Vivo Foundation.
